An Orphan is a part somebody needs a documented alternative for and has not found one. Nothing is here yet, so the first one sets the standard — and until a producer declares against it and a reviewer classifies that declaration, XrefBase will say so plainly rather than fill the space.

  1. 01You record the partThe part number and the conditions that must stay true. Your reason, customer, volumes and target price stay private — they are never published, and no filter on this board can reach them.
  2. 02Others join the same OrphanOne part, one Orphan. The board shows an anonymous count of how many people need an alternative, which is the signal a producer acts on.
  3. 03Producers declare candidatesWith scope, exclusions, differences and a public source document. A declaration is listed once its identity and documents check out — never as a verified answer.
  4. 04A reviewer classifies the evidenceAn independent review turns a listed declaration into a candidate relationship. Until then it stays a declaration, and a candidate is still not an answer.
  5. 05A second decision publishes itA candidate reaches the lookup only through a separate publish decision, which still requires evidence, a named reviewer and a revalidation date. That is the point at which it becomes a relationship you can cite.

XrefBase does not seed this board. A demand-led Orphan is here because somebody recorded the part they needed, and the count beside it is people, not companies or teams — a producer-led Orphan shows that count as zero and reaches the board only once a declaration has been listed against it.
